Remi Miura

Born in Tokyo, Remi Miura studied musicology at Kunitachi College of Music, where she became fascinated by the sound of Japanese Sho (shō). She studied shō under Mayumi Miyata and Hideaki Bunno, and gagaku ensemble playing with Sukeyasu Shiba. She began her career as a gagaku musician while still a student in 1994. 


Upon graduation, she joined Reigakusha, performing at prominent venues and festivals worldwide, including the National Theatre, the Suntory Summer Festival, and the ULTIMA Music Festival, among others. Her notable performances include appearing in the ballet Kaguyahime at the Paris National Opera (2010) and with Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal (2012); collaborating with Ensemble Modern in Frankfurt (2015); and performing at Japonismes 2018 in Paris, the Japan Society in New York City (2019), and Mahidol University in Bangkok. In 2012, Miura co-founded "Shogirls," a trio of three shō players, and launched a concert series showcasing both contemporary and traditional music for the shō.
